Kenworth’s Renton Plant Earns 2014 Best Workplace For Waste Prevention and Recycling Award From King County
KIRKLAND, Wash., July 17, 2014 - Kenworth Truck Company's assembly plant in Renton, Wash., recently earned a 2014 Best Workplace for Waste Prevention and Recycling Award from the King County (Wash.) Solid Waste Division for exceptional efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle.

It marked the sixth consecutive year that Kenworth - Renton has received the award, which enabled the plant to achieve King County's prestigious Honor Roll status for the second straight year.
"We operate a significant, comprehensive waste prevention and recycling program with a goal of zero waste to the landfill," said Daryl Simon, Kenworth assistant general manager for operations. "Every year, our goal is to be the best by raising the bar, finding additional ways to protect the environment, and achieving continuous improvement. Our employees play an important role in this successful, team effort to reduce, reuse and recycle. We thank King County for this special Honor Roll recognition of the Kenworth-Renton plant's environmental efforts." Kenworth - Renton's Zero Waste to Landfill initiative features the recycling of paper, cardboard, wood, plastics, metals, engine oils, antifreeze, batteries, electronics, light bulbs, toner cartridges, and cooking oil used in the cafeteria. The program includes recycling of wood pallets, use of returnable shipping containers, reduced packaging material, and waste-stream segregation. In addition, Kenworth-Renton's cafeteria has a composting program for food waste and food service items. A comprehensive energy management system also helps to minimize environmental impact.
